The good people of Tabletop Adventures, and the Overlord, are pleased to announce that all Tabletop Adventures products are now available to order through paizo.com. This includes the print version of Bits of Darkness: Dungeons Duo, two entire books of shadowy dungeon descriptions together in one cover and right now available on-line only from paizo.com.

In addition, all of our electronic products can be purchased from paizo.com, from our system-neutral fantasy terrain descriptions (the “Bits of…” series) to Against the Darkness, our modern Vatican horror roleplaying game. In between are a wide variety of things. In the fantasy line we have Shards of the Heart, a book full of NPCs ready for romance or adventure, and the Bits of Magicka products. For modern-day games there is Halls of Horror, with dark descriptions of buildings that could fit into a game of espionage, supers, horror, or anything that takes place in the present day.

Looking into the future, we have the Destinations line of spaceports and space stations, suitable for use with almost any science fiction game. In addition we have the Deck O’ Names cards and software, to provide naming options for any genre.

Our upcoming products will also be available on paizo.com. Coming this month is Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains, an electronic product with fantasy terrain descriptions for that setting. The printed version of Against the Darkness is currently undergoing correction of errata and will be available again in June, so watch for it late next month on paizo.com.

Thank you all for your support in the past few years. Augment your imagination with products from Tabletop Adventures!

We have spent the last few days putting the finishing touches on "Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains", a new release in our Fantasy Shards and Bits line.  We are looking at the proofs now.  It always seems there is one last detail or two to correct or put in place.  For some reason it seems like this release has been a long time coming - we'll be glad to see it launch.

Hit a road block and needed to take a break for a moment - so we decided to provide a quick glimpse into our inner workings....
Current sounds in the office... whirring of the computer fans, the rustling of our editor's speedy typing... otherwise it is too quiet.  We could use some good music.

This week several of the minions here have had their noses to the grindstone on behalf of his Evil Overlordship... and are deep into working on their respective projects.  The web minion is deep into the guts of a new web project.  We've got a website update coming soon and a new webstore in the works for later this year.   Details for GenCon, Origins and the fall tradeshows are being put into place.  Some last minute communication on a convention or two over Memorial Day weekend and in June.  Conversations about adjustments to the upcoming release schedule were earlier this week.

Distractions have abounded this week - complicating the schedules.  A couple of our folks volunteered as pollworkers for the local primary election.  Kids... or minions-in-training... are finishing up school & their last projects and they are demanding attention.  Allergy season has hit here in the midwest and has a few folks down for the count...

Got to get descriptions for art projects out the door... ok... enough of this, it is getting to sound like a todo list.
I need a vacation!  A vacation in the Mountains... that would be just the thing....  yup!

Ok... back at it.

Tale of a Gamer Mom

  • May. 9th, 2008 at 9:23 PM

We have received a great response to the invitation to send in accounts of moms who are gamers, and we'll share some of them here. One woman wrote that she herself is a gamer mom.

Tabletop Adventures announces its fourth annual "Moms Are Gamers Too!" sale in honor of Mother's Day. TTA is offering 10% off on all its products from now through Monday, May 12. You can find our products at Your Games Now, e23, the EN World Download Shop, RPGNow, DriveThruRPG and now also at paizo.com

In addition, if you are a mom who is a gamer, have a mom who is a gamer, or know a mom who is a gamer, write us and tell us about her and we will give you a coupon for 30% off the product of your choice. (Sorry, coupons not available for e23 or paizo.com.)

Send your mom info to publisher@tabletopadventures.com. Please tell us about the gamer mom you know (or are), let us know where you heard about the sale and state for which product you would like a coupon, and at which sales site. (Coupons will be good through June 30, 2008.) These accounts of moms in gaming may show up on our web site, with all identifying information removed, of course. To read some of the great comments we received in previous years, see the sale information page of our website.

And the rest of the usual blurb:

Against the Darkness is an easy-to-learn Vatican horror roleplaying game which is suitable for both experienced gamers who appreciate a religious slant on the horror genre and players looking for an accessible system in which to learn the art of the game. If you are going to be attending MAGE Con, we invite you to sign up for one of these games, or at least look for Vicki in her green company shirt and say hello!

Fortune favors...

  • Apr. 15th, 2008 at 10:31 AM

Our company is made up of three couples who are (still) friends. We had our dinner-and-a-meeting tonight and were joined by a guest who is visiting one family. One of the ladies cooked stir-fry for supper, and also provided fortune cookies. After dinner we went around and read our fortunes and made snarky remarks. We were trying to find one that predicted business success and vast wealth in the RPG industry, but weren’t able to delude ourselves that much.

These were our fortunes:

  •             Others find your charm irresistible. (For our Evil Overlord!)
  •             A bold and dashing adventure is in your future. (For the quietest of the three ladies, who does not expect to be either bold or dashing at any point.)
  •             Others appreciate your good sense of humor. (That was for the guest who had spent the evening torturing us with puns.)
  •             Look around; happiness is trying to catch you.
  •             Everything will now come your way.
  •             Know the right moment and make your move.
  •             You will have good luck in business affairs. (Sounds promising!)

Then one person commented, "You know, in college we used to read them with 'in bed' on the end, to see if they made sense that way." Our distinguished guest added, "Yes we did that in seminary, too." But we won't go there....

Mar. 4th, 2008

  • 5:28 PM

Today, March 4th, is GM’s Day, in honor of all the hard-working gamemasters out there. Tabletop Adventures wants to make it easier for you to get a little something for your GM (or for yourself), so all our products for the Harried Game Master will be on sale at 25% off through March 6th.

Help out your GM by providing some creative terrain descriptions , such as the innovative “Bits of Darkness: Dungeons” or our ENnie-nominated “Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Open.” Or go for the magic with the excellent “Bits of Magicka” series.

Make it easier to run games on the fly with TTA’s Deck O' Names products – Card Deck 1 for fantastic names, Anglo Saxon Places for fantasy locations, Modern for ethnically diverse present or future names, and Japanese for Asian feel. All Deck O’ Names products are available as print-and-cut cards and as software.

For the sci-fi GM, get one or more of our “Destinations” line – stat-free futuristic locations to use with nearly any science fiction setting.

Does your GM like horror  – or do you? Treat someone to “Against the Darkness,” a Vatican horror RPG with easy-to-learn mechanics and miraculous powers to face down the minions of evil. Also useful is "Halls of Horror," creepy descriptions of modern buildings for use in any horror game.

Tabletop Adventures products are available at Your Games Now, e23,  the ENWorld Download Shop, RPGNow  and DriveThru RPG. Augment your imagination with products from Tabletop Adventures. Buy it Today, Play it Tonight!

Gearing up for GM's Day

  • Feb. 29th, 2008 at 1:34 AM

GM's Day is coming up on March 4th. This is the day when all right-thinking players celebrate their GM and thank him or her for all that hard work by presenting said GM with a small token of their esteem. This could be some new dice, or a pizza, or a chocolate bar, or a pat on the back (literally or figuratively), or it could be something from Tabletop Adventures that you got on sale at 25% off.

Yes indeed, from now through March 6th we are offering all our products at a 25% discount off their regular price. This could be a great opportunity to introduce your GM to some of our helpful products. Playing a fantasy game? Pick up something from the Bits of Darkness or Bits of the Wilderness line, introduce some great NPCs with Shards of the Heart, or get some people on those city streets with Bits of the Boulevard. If you're into science fiction, gift your GM with one of the Destinations line of sci-fi spaceports and other futuristic locations. Is modern more your thing? Take a look at Halls of Horror, with dark descriptions of modern interiors.

This sale might also be a good time to try the Deck O' Names products, which generate random names that can be used in several genre. The original Deck O' Names; Anglo Saxon Places; Modern; and Japanese all are available as printable cards or as easy-to-use software.

Interested in a stand-alone game? Check out Against the Darkness, a modern Vatican horror game. The mechanics are simple enough that even someone who has never played an RPG can pick them up in about ten minutes, but there are enough options for more experienced gamers as well. (By the way, Halls of Horror would work really well with AtD!)

But wait! you say. I'm the GM. What should I be doing?

Well, you really have two choices. No - three! You have three choices.
  • The first is that you could send your players a link to this blog, or show them the Tabletop Adventures web site or our publisher page on one of our sales sites (see below) and say, "I sure would like to have something these guys publish."
  • The second thing you could do is to just feel sorry for yourself because your players are insensitive clods, or you don't have a group right now, but in any case no one is going to buy you anything for GM's Day. ("Never mind, don't mind me, I'll just sit here in the dark...")
  • Your third option is that could treat yourself to something special, which we know you totally deserve!

So, you say, where can I get all this awesome stuff at a great price? I'm certainly glad you asked that question. The sale is on at Your Games Now. Other sales sites are the ENWorld Download Shop, RPGNow, and DriveThru RPG. Take this opportunity to augment your GM's imagination, with products from Tabletop Adventures!

  • Feb. 19th, 2008 at 1:18 PM

Free in January at Your Games Now

  • Jan. 18th, 2008 at 8:01 AM

Tabletop Adventures is a member of Your Games Now, a publisher cooperative. Companies share the costs of the electronic sales site, and also share the profits!  January is the first anniversary of Your Games Now, and in recognition of that some publishers are offering free products. You can see a list of the companies and products involved on the front page of Your Games Now. Tabletop Adventures is participating by offering our "Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items" free.

"Pocket Items" is a collection of 20 items that fit in a pocket or pouch, ranging from the merely unusual to the downright weird. But the author wasn’t able to stop himself there; for the aspiring pickpocket he also included the mark who owns each item. Author Greg Ragland has included 20 delightful pockets or pouches for conniving thieves to pick, the item in each, a brief description of the NPC who owns the item, what else is in the person's pocket, and what he or she is likely to do when the magic item turns up missing. We first presented "Pocket Items" for Free PDF Day in September, and since that time it had been for sale at all our locations - Your Games Now, the EN World Download Shop, RPGNow, DriveThru RPG and e23. If you haven't picked it up yet, now's your chance!

A Bit of something for Christmas

  • Dec. 20th, 2007 at 11:36 AM

We have just added something to the Gaming Aids page on the Tabletop Adventures web site - printable card boxes.*

Those familiar with our "Bits" line of products will know that each includes 100 short descriptions (plus various longer ones), and that these 100 descriptions are available to print (or photocopy) onto cardstock for easier in-game use. The designer of our Deck O' Names line of random name generation products included print-and-cut boxes for the name cards in each of those sets. She has also graciously provided us with similar boxes, specifically sized to fit the cards from the Bits books and with appropriate artwork on each box.

Boxes are available for seven products:
Bits of Darkness: Caverns
Bits of Darkness: Dungeons
Bits of Darkness: Dungeons II
Bits of the Boulevard
Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Open
Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Swamp
Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Wildwood

You can download the box for each product individually at the Gaming Aids page (scroll down to the last item), or click here to download a 4.3 MB zip file with a set of all seven boxes plus a blank one.

Also check out other available Gaming Aids - a rules summary and demo file for Against the Darkness, blank Against the Darkness character sheets, a blank character sheet like the ones used in our NPC book Shards of the Heart,  and various articles that might be of interest. Augment your imagination with useful aids from Tabletop Adventures!

*(Note: These card boxes were originally made available in December 2006, but due to our poor publicity very few of our loyal customers know they exist. If you downloaded card boxes from us at some point in the past year, these are the same as what you have.)

In honor of the birthdays of the Overlord and his Esteemed Consort, Tabletop Adventures is pleased to announce our annual Birthday Sale. The minions are hoping for a good showing from this sale to improve his mood! From now until the end of November, all our products will be on sale for 20% off their regular price. We provide useful game aids for creating adventures and settings – past, present and future. Augment your imagination with products from Tabletop Adventures. Against the Darkness, a modern Vatican horror game, uses a custom system to give the feel of playing in the world of demons and exorcists, fallen angels and ancient religious secrets. See our modern horror products.

For GMs whose preferred setting is the stars, check out the Destinations line of spacestations, starports and out-of-this-world eating establishments. Whether you need a respectable or disreputable gathering spot for your characters, Tabletop Adventures has a Destination to fit your needs. See our sci-fi products.

Also included in the sale is our Deck O’ Names line of random name generating products. The Deck O’ Names: Japanese, Anglo Saxon Places, Modern and original Deck O’ Names (for fantasy or futuristic names) are each available in print-and-cut or software versions. Tabletop Adventures’ earliest and most popular products are the “Bits” series – descriptions of common types of terrain, general enough to be usable in nearly any fantasy game. Terrain types include dungeons, caverns, forests, swamps, open area, and cities. Also for use in a fantasy setting are the “Bits of Magicka” series of creative magic items. The latest release, Bits of Magicka: Rings and Jewels, contains 100 magical gems and bewitching baubles to embellish your game or adorn your characters’ ankles and arms, neck and navel. Saturday, 6:30 PM – Overlord’s Birthday Party

November 17th is the Evil Overlord’s birthday. In honor of that, Tabletop Adventures will be closing our booth for the evening shortly after 6:00 and moving off-site for dinner and other diversions. Fans of Tabletop Adventures or friends of the Evil Overlord are welcome to come along. Dinner will be at an Italian restaurant a few miles from the convention; individuals will be responsible for their own food and beverages but we have arranged to sit together as a group. To reserve a space and get more details, e-mail minionservice@tabletopadventures.com or talk to us in the early part of the convention. We hope to see you there.

In honor of Halloween, Tabletop Adventures is excruciatingly pleased to announce “Halls of Horror,” a book of dark descriptions for modern settings.

Did the contact for the secret agents pick an abandoned building for a meeting? Have investigators of the supernatural heard rumors of a haunting? Did your superheroes track the bad guy to a boarded-up mansion? Here’s help in detailing what they find inside. Tabletop Adventures provides 150 creepy descriptions in a modern setting: building interiors (and more) for use in any RPG from the pulp era to the present day.

These descriptions run the gamut from simple signs of abandonment to weird things which may have a natural explanation to the downright horrific. A bloody handprint, steep staircase, dead rat and letters written by an unseen hand are some of the phenomena portrayed in this document. Send characters to a dusty library, wax museum, Gothic cathedral, or to the graveyard after dark. Over 150 slightly off-kilter descriptions are included, to ease the life of the Harried Game Master.

Augment your imagination with “Halls of Horror” from Tabletop Adventures. Buy it Today, Play it Tonight!

"Halls of Horror" is available at: Your Games Now, the EN World Download Shop, RPGNow, and DriveThruRPG.

A special teaser, just for blog readers )

Update

  • Oct. 30th, 2007 at 4:04 PM

Well, the minion responsible for maintaining this blog in October has been sacked. Don't worry, no one is out of a job; you don't think the Evil Overlord would let his people go that easily, do you? Around here being sacked means being stuffed into a big bag and beaten with the blunt end of the Executioner's really impressive axe. After some time to let the bones heal and then cleaning the oubliettes for a month, that minion may even be allowed a second chance.

Meanwhile, the minion supervisor is filling in. The minion scheduled for November is going to have a lot of catching up to do, though.

The most recent news is that Tabletop Adventures participated in the Aftershock Game Day for Nuke-Con. It was held on Saturday Oct. 27 at Nuke-Con's "South Station," which is Gauntlet Games here in Lincoln. We ran two sessions of "Against the Darkness" as well as a game of "Stonehenge," a board game which has become a favorite of one of our members. The Game Day was well attended; all the store's tables were full of one thing or another. TTA is planning a mini-game day at the same location on the afternoon of Saturday, November 24. More details as they become available.

Just checking...

  • Oct. 30th, 2007 at 12:51 PM

Testing, testing. Is this thing on?

Is anybody here?

Oh my.

Hold on; I'll be back in a couple hours.

Last Chance for Free Product

  • Sep. 26th, 2007 at 12:14 PM

"Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items," which we offered for Free PDF Weekend, is now available on all our sales sites - Your Games Now, Steve Jackson Games' e23, EN WorldRPGNow and DriveThru RPG. For the rest of September, it will continue to be free at all those locations. Take this opportunity to pick up this really excellent product from the fertile imagination of author Greg Ragland.

Also keep your eyes open for "Bits of Magicka: Rings and Jewels," which is coming soon. It is in layout now, and our goal is to make it available for sale before we leave for this weekend's convention.
