15 seconds of fame

  • May. 9th, 2009 at 3:13 PM

A Houston writer for Examiner.com somehow ran across information on our Mother's Day sale, and has posted an article about it.  The article complements her previous item on gifts for geek moms.

Examiner.com claims to get "inside" various cities with their Examiners, who "are credible, passionate, knowledgeable writers." And they have good taste!

Tabletop Adventures announces our fifth annual "Moms Are Gamers Too!" sale in honor of Mother's Day. We are offering a discount on all our electronic products from now through Tuesday, May 12. You can find our products at Your Games Now, e23, paizo.com, the EN World Download Shop, RPGNow, and DriveThruRPG.

In addition, if you are a mom who is a gamer, have a mom who is a gamer, or know a mom who is a gamer, write us and tell us about her and we will give you a coupon for 30% off the product of your choice. (Sorry, coupons not available for e23 or paizo.com. See our website for more information.)

Send your mom info to publisher@tabletopadventures.com. Please tell us about the gamer mom you know (or are), let us know where you heard about the sale and state for which product you would like a coupon and at which sales site. (Coupons will be good through June 30, 2009.) These accounts of moms in gaming may show up on our web site - or here on the blog - with all identifying information removed, of course. To read some of the great comments we received in previous years, see the sale information page of our website.

Our friends at Generic Universe Publishing are also having a special Mother's Day sale, with a 25% discount on all their fantasy city locations from now through Sunday, May 10. City Streets establishments can be used in almost any fantasy setting, and at these prices you can try several!

Final tally

  • Dec. 4th, 2008 at 11:27 PM

The minions have been quite busy since the end of the Overlord’s birthday celebration. They’re not quite sure yet if things ended well or badly. Acceptable gifts were becoming difficult to find, and the minions were forced to dig deep. Then the Overlord’s Esteemed Consort upped the ante on day 13. To top her gift, the minions had to come up with the most extreme gift ever! Now, of course, the question is what are they going to do next year to top this. They are considering quietly committing mass suicide rather than having to go through this all again. The final list of gifts:

On the fourteenth day of the Overlord’s Birthday, his minions gave to him...

Fourteen independent nations,
Thirteen groveling gaming companies,

Twelve first-born children,

Eleven wraiths a' writhing,
Ten totems screaming,

Nine lepers leaping,

Eight golden thumbscrews,

Seven cat-o-nine-tails,

Six TPKs,

F-i-v-e unicorn horns,

Four accursed tomes,

Three sacrificial paladins,

Two squawking crows,

And a gnome's head on a tree limb.

d20 Book Half Price at paizo.com

  • Nov. 30th, 2008 at 9:39 AM

Tabletop Adventures produced one printed book that specificially used the d20 logo, and it is now on sale. This is Bits of Darkness: Dungeons Duo, a compilation of our two Dungeons products into one item. It comes as two separate booklets, enclosed in a cover and shrink-wrapped, similar to some modules of yore. (You can view an electronic preview of the content here.)  The only place to buy one online is at paizo.com and literally only a handful of these are still available, so if you are interested you need to pick one up soon.

You can see all of Tabletop Adventures' print products at paizo.com. Also, if you hurry you can catch the last day of the Overlord's Birthday Sale, on paizo.com, Your Games Now, and other places.

Birthday Celebration Continues!

  • Nov. 28th, 2008 at 7:06 PM

Well, the long celebration of the Overlord's birthday is going into its final weekend, and the minions are hanging in there. They are cautiously optimistic that they may survive the month with no losses, since the Overlord has seemed to appreciate his presents so far.

The minions began the festive season by gather en masse and serenading the Overlord with The Birthday Dirge. He was very pleased, and commented "Ah it warmed the EO's heart to hear his minions singing the birthday song for him.  Really cheered me up for the night." ["EO" is the minions' friendly nickname for the Evil Overlord.] They followed this up with an assortment of presents. In fact, the roster of gifts could be set to another well-known tune. As of yesterday, this was the list:

On the eleventh day of the Overlord's Birthday, his minions gave to him...

Eleven wraiths a' writhing
Ten totems screaming,
Nine lepers leaping,
Eight golden thumbscrews,
Seven cat-o-nine-tails,
Six TPKs,
Five unicorn horns,
Four accursed tomes,
Three sacrificial paladins,
Two squawking crows,
And a gnome's head on a tree limb.

(These are genuine gift ideas put forth by actual minions. I'm not making this stuff up!) Alas, the Overlord's Birthday celebration lasts fourteen days, not twelve, so the minions still have to come up with three more gifts and it's already past sundown on the twelfth day. They may not all make it through this after all....

Overlord's Birthday Sale

  • Nov. 17th, 2008 at 11:32 PM

The minions of Tabletop Adventures are pleased to announce that it is once again their favorite time of year – the Overlord’s Birthday. In keeping with the spirit of giving required of them at this season, the minions would like to invite all and sundry to a sale to be held in his honor. A discount of 20% will be granted on each electronic product during this sale. All of our sales sites are involved in the minions’ tribute to their beloved Overlord. (They know the Overlord is beloved – he tells them so!)

Not only do the minions celebrate the Birthday of the Overlord at this time, but also that of his Esteemed Consort. In her honor, the sale will continue through her natal day, November 30th.

Included in this sale are the “Bits of…” line of descriptive products, the various Deck O’ Names products, the Destinations science-fiction line, the modern Vatican horror RPG Against the Darkness, the modern descriptions of Halls of Horror, and more.

Do not fail to take advantage of this opportunity! Slackers are likely to find themselves in the oubliette, which is not a nice place to spend the winter. Veterans have a special place in our hearts – one-third of our company members are veterans, as are many other relatives and friends. In honor of all gamers who are veterans, and in thanks to all military veterans and current military personnel, Tabletop Adventures has a special offer for this week only.

If you are, or know, a veteran who plays roleplaying games, write us and tell us about him or her by November 15, and we will give you a coupon for 30% off the product of your choice. (Coupons available for Your Games Now, ENWorld Download Shop, RPGNow or DriveThruRPG.) This offer includes future veterans – in other words, current military personnel – and military spouses. Although not the ones who receive the paychecks and the awards, spouses play a crucial role in supporting the military and deserve recognition as well.

These accounts of veterans may show up on our web site or company blog, with all identifying information removed, of course. Review of Against the Darkness

  • Oct. 11th, 2008 at 6:28 PM

The owner of the RPG blog RPGCentric has posted an actual-play review of Against the Darkness. He played in the Friday evening game at the Nuke-Con gaming convention (in Omaha/Council Bluffs), and took notes for his later write-up. The review is well written and explains a lot of the aspects of the game, which always makes us happy. On top of that he recommends the game, which is the icing on the cake as far as we're concerned. I encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about Against the Darkness to check out the review, and anyone who is interested in RPGs to read more from RPGCentric.

The most alien place on Earth

  • Sep. 21st, 2008 at 5:33 PM

From time to time we run across pictures or information that could be great inspiration for roleplayers. We want to share some of these with you, and so we'll be posting an irregular series under the tag "inspiration."

Today we have an article from the site Dark Roasted Blend. It features Socotra Island, which is off the coast of Yemen. Their intro:

Socotra Island: you have to see it to believe it

We covered some otherwordly places before (see, for example, Bolivian Salt Lake, or The Richat Structure), but this island simply blows away any notion about what is considered "normal" for a landscape on Earth.

Check it out!

We are the proud publishers of three newly printed products, which will be available next week at GenCon and then also this Fall at conventions in our area - NukeCon in Omaha/Council Bluffs, and Shaun Con in Kansas City. You can now buy physical copies of Halls of Horror, Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains and Bits of the Boulevard

All three of these books are already available in electronic form at our various sales sites. We will also have CD-ROM disks with the electronic version for sale at GenCon.

We would be very happy to meet any blog readers or TTA fans at GenCon so be sure to stop by Booth #400 and say hello!

Tabletop Adventures at GenCon

  • Jul. 24th, 2008 at 2:34 PM

Tabletop Adventures' staff is going to be very busy at GenCon this year. Four of us will be attending, but we have enough activities for six....

The first thing is that we have a booth! It is booth #400. Well, half a booth. (We will be sharing with Active Mind Games, which provides storage solutions for miniatures.) Stop by and see us at booth #400! It is right next to the booth of the Game Publishers' Association Showcase, and very near where the Guests of Honor will be located. Did we mention it is booth #400?

The second thing is that we are going to have new printed books to sell at our booth! Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains will be available as a 64-page book. We also anticipate having Bits of the Boulevard and the modern-day Halls of Horror there in print form. In addition, a new printing of Against the Darkness (with corrections and clarifications) will be available.

The third thing is that TTA is going to provide primary staffing for the GPA Showcase booth this year, so much of the time you may be able to find two or even three of us in the area.

The fourth thing is that we are going to be running games of Against the Darkness. Four games are scheduled, of which three were filled at the time that event registration closed. Friday's game from 10-2 still has some openings. All games are scheduled to be played in Union Station.

The fifth thing is that one of our products, Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items, received an Honorable Mention from the EN World GenCon RPG Awards (ENnies). (See a previous post on this.) We're not sure if any of our people will be able to attend the ceremony, but if you're there, be sure to watch for Pocket Items to be mentioned in the Best Free Product category.

We would be delighted to meet any EN Worlders or other folks who would like to say hello. Stop by our booth, or look for us in our dark green shirts with the TTA logo on the front.

Free for a limited time

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 4:12 PM

As previously mentioned, Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items is now available free from the Tabletop Adventures website, http://www.tabletopadventures.com.

ENnies Honorable Mention

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 6:20 PM

The minions are very excited because one of our products, Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items, received an Honorable Mention from the ENnie Awards in the category of Best Free Product. First released for Free PDF Day in September 2007, Pocket Items was available free through the Tabletop Adventures website until June of this year. (Now it's for sale at our various electronic sales sites.) However, since it was honored in the Free Product category, the Overlord has declared that it will again be offered at no charge, for a limited time only.

During the voting period for the ENnie Awards (July 21-Aug. 4, 2008), Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items will be available free through the Tabletop Adventures website. Check the front page then for a link to the special download.

If you ever have a thief in your game who might want to pick some pockets, you owe it to yourself to take a look at Bits of Magicka: Pocket Items, from the slightly twisted mind of author Greg Ragland. Like the other products in the Bits of Magicka series, it is well written and highly devious. It has 20 magical items that - get this - all fit in a pocket or pouch. Each pocket comes complete with an owner, along with his or her reaction to an attempt at theft. Including such things as an almost infinitely long ball of pink yarn and a noxious magical cheese, these unexpected items will keep the unsuspecting thief alert!

Augment your imagination, with products from Tabletop Adventures.

Pushing Back the Light - Success Story!

  • Jun. 25th, 2008 at 3:25 PM

Tabletop Adventures' Summer Sale officially began on June 18, but really took off the next day. Early sales seemed to have no effect on the sunlight situation, though. On June 20th, the Evil Overlord was given the news that the day was the longest in the year so far and he indicated his displeasure. Sales continued, though, and the minions hoped for the best.

Then, on the 21st, the Overlord’s scientists reported good news – their measurements indicated a decrease in the amount of daylight by 1 second. The Overlord was skeptical at this admittedly tiny change. However, as the sale went on and new minions were enrolled, the darkness continued to increase. On June 22, the period of daylight was 5 seconds shorter than the day before. The next day scientists observed a decrease of 8 additional seconds, for a net decrease of 14 seconds! Given this information on Monday, the Overlord remarked, “I thought this was all a ploy. I never expected it to work!” The minion who developed the concept was honored but disturbed by the Overlord’s notice.

Positive change continues. The daylight hours of Tuesday, June 24, were 13 seconds shorter than the prior day, almost doubling the previous total. This was attributed to the larger-than-usual number of minions signed up that day. Predictions look good for June 25 as well, with the pattern of increasing darkness now seeming to be well established.

Now that the Overlord has been placated in the matter of all that daylight, he will no doubt be looking for some other topic for his displeasureand lowered prices are always something he finds distasteful. The minions will be delighted to welcome new compatriots as long as they can but anyone who still wishes to take advantage of these sale prices would be advised to do so as soon as possible.

Ah, June! The sun is shining, the days are getting longer – and the Evil Overlord is cranky. Without bad weather to keep everyone trapped in the castle, minions keep slipping away and enjoying themselves, much to his chagrin. Before he could order wholesale executions to boost his mood, the minions came up with a distraction: Pushing Back the Light – Tabletop Adventures’ Big Summer Sale.

Not only is everything discounted by 25%, this is your chance to join the ranks as an Honorary Minion! Assist the Overlord as he brings the force of his personality and the might of his empire to bear on trying to force the sun further from the earth, thereby increasing the amount of darkness present in the world.

To become an Honorary Minion, merely purchase three Tabletop Adventures products during the period of the sale, June 19-25. Then send an e-mail to publisher@tabletopadventures.com; tell us your name and which products you purchased. We will send you an elegant electronic Certificate of Minionship that you can use to brag about your new status.

Already an Honorary Minion? Then make only two purchases to upgrade your ranking in the minion hierarchy. Own everything already? (You know who you are!) Send a note giving your opinion about Tabletop Adventures products and we will see that you are recognized appropriately.

Act now – get all your Tabletop Adventures products at 25% off the regular price and help the Minion Preservation and Recruitment Society make it through another year. Bring out the majesty and the danger of the mountains! Tabletop Adventures is pleased to announce Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains. This product, suitable for nearly any fantasy mountains regardless of the gaming system, provides both expansive vistas and menacing details – 160 ways to tell your players more than “It’s really steep.”

Lull your adventurers with forested trails and meadows full of wildflowers, then move on to massive boulders blocking the path and towering waterfalls which can be heard for miles. Turn up the pressure with slopes of loose rock which fall for no apparent reason, trails so steep only a mountain goat can be happy, and abandoned stone buildings perched on isolated peaks. Throw in a little mystery, with bones piled at the bottom of a cliff or a body left for the carrion birds. Top it off with a spring thaw that turns all the trails to freezing cold streams, snows that hide both landmarks and dangerous drops, or wind cold enough to freeze the flesh on one’s bones, and the true spirit of the mountains really comes through.

This book includes 100 Bits, small pieces of terrain description which can be stuck in anywhere a little detail is needed and numbered so they can be used randomly. Each Bit is also provided in index card format for ease of use by Game Masters. Sixty other pieces portray special features or the variations of seasons and weather. In addition, we have again included terrain “Kits,” which can help you make distinctive types of mountains in your world.

Tabletop Adventures products are available on Your Games Now, paizo.com, e23, the EN World Download Shop, RPGNow and DriveThruRPG.

The good people of Tabletop Adventures, and the Overlord, are pleased to announce that all Tabletop Adventures products are now available to order through paizo.com. This includes the print version of Bits of Darkness: Dungeons Duo, two entire books of shadowy dungeon descriptions together in one cover and right now available on-line only from paizo.com.

In addition, all of our electronic products can be purchased from paizo.com, from our system-neutral fantasy terrain descriptions (the “Bits of…” series) to Against the Darkness, our modern Vatican horror roleplaying game. In between are a wide variety of things. In the fantasy line we have Shards of the Heart, a book full of NPCs ready for romance or adventure, and the Bits of Magicka products. For modern-day games there is Halls of Horror, with dark descriptions of buildings that could fit into a game of espionage, supers, horror, or anything that takes place in the present day.

Looking into the future, we have the Destinations line of spaceports and space stations, suitable for use with almost any science fiction game. In addition we have the Deck O’ Names cards and software, to provide naming options for any genre.

Our upcoming products will also be available on paizo.com. Coming this month is Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains, an electronic product with fantasy terrain descriptions for that setting. The printed version of Against the Darkness is currently undergoing correction of errata and will be available again in June, so watch for it late next month on paizo.com.

Thank you all for your support in the past few years. Augment your imagination with products from Tabletop Adventures!

We have spent the last few days putting the finishing touches on "Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains", a new release in our Fantasy Shards and Bits line.  We are looking at the proofs now.  It always seems there is one last detail or two to correct or put in place.  For some reason it seems like this release has been a long time coming - we'll be glad to see it launch.

Hit a road block and needed to take a break for a moment - so we decided to provide a quick glimpse into our inner workings....
Current sounds in the office... whirring of the computer fans, the rustling of our editor's speedy typing... otherwise it is too quiet.  We could use some good music.

This week several of the minions here have had their noses to the grindstone on behalf of his Evil Overlordship... and are deep into working on their respective projects.  The web minion is deep into the guts of a new web project.  We've got a website update coming soon and a new webstore in the works for later this year.   Details for GenCon, Origins and the fall tradeshows are being put into place.  Some last minute communication on a convention or two over Memorial Day weekend and in June.  Conversations about adjustments to the upcoming release schedule were earlier this week.

Distractions have abounded this week - complicating the schedules.  A couple of our folks volunteered as pollworkers for the local primary election.  Kids... or minions-in-training... are finishing up school & their last projects and they are demanding attention.  Allergy season has hit here in the midwest and has a few folks down for the count...

Got to get descriptions for art projects out the door... ok... enough of this, it is getting to sound like a todo list.
I need a vacation!  A vacation in the Mountains... that would be just the thing....  yup!

Ok... back at it.
